Week 7

October 18-19, 2014

The top co-ed squad headed to Mass Maritime for the Great Herring Pond Open. Saturday brought steady breeze at 15-20 kts while Sunday saw 90-degree shifts. Scott Goodrich sailed with Taylor Williams in A-division and Jackson Hamilton sailed with Jackie Berlin in B-division. They placed 3rd and 4th in their divisions for a 3rd place finish overall!

Northeastern had another great finish at the Providence College Invitational. Johnny Wehner and Laura Tschiegg placed 2nd in A-fleet while Donal Ryan and Sasha Zhmakina finished 5th in B-fleet. Like at Mass Maritime, the conditions were completely different from Saturday to Sunday, but the Huskies adapted nicely and finished a solid 4th overall.

At the Hurst Trophy hosted by Dartmouth, the Huskies competed in their first intersectional of the season in some real dicey conditions. In division-A there was Elise Gehling and Eleanor Grams while in B-division there was Tori McGruer and Liz Sczerzenie with Camille Matile subbing in a skipper.  The team had many close races, but ultimately struggled and placed 15th in both fleets.

On Saturday, the Huskies sailed on home waters in the Firefly/FJ Invite at MIT. Sailors were greeted with a beautiful sunny day and a 15-18kt breeze. Peter Christensen and Lindsay Martinez sailed in A-fleet with Heidi Hood and Claire Lockard in B-fleet. They rounded out the day with in 6th place.

Also in Boston was the Lane Trophy Team Race at Tufts. Huskie sailors included Zach Shapiro, Claire Lockard, Will Manning, Evan Gregory, Kurran Singh, and Abby Duclos. After a complete round robin in 10-15 kts the team finished up in 7th place.
