Week 8

October 25-26, 2014

Northeastern hosted the 76th annual Oberg Trophy with much help from team alumni, the MIT staff, and all of the competitors. Saturday was a beautiful day for sailing with gusts from 8-12 kts, and Sunday building to as much as 20 kts. Sailors Scott Goodrich and Taylor Williams were in A-division, Johnny Wehner and Laura Tschiegg in B-division, and Matteo Alampi and Linnea Goldstein in C-division. After a long two days and a total of 51 races, the Huskies finished up in 16th place overall.

At Connecticut College, the Stu Nelson brought out the toughest competition the women’s team will face this season. Little breeze made Saturday a tough one with only six races in each division. Sunday had better wind but that yielded no end to the frustrating racing. Elise Gehling and Lindsay Martinez hung with the pack in A-fleet but finished in 17th place. Tori McGruer and Liz Sczerzenie did well in B-fleet snagging 10th place. The girls rounded out the weekend in 17th overall.

Co-ed sailors not at the Oberg headed to Boston College for the Central Series 6. Heidi Hood and Eleanor Grams sailed A-division Saturday, and were replaced by Kurran Singh and Abby Duclos on Sunday. Will Manning and Evan Gregory were in B-division for the weekend. Both divisions had some difficulty in the shifty breeze but finished up in 11th place overall.
