Week 7
March 15-16, 2014
Northeastern competed in two regattas this week, sending teams to MIT and Salve Regina.
In Newport, the top Husky pairs competed in the Veitor Trophy. Maarten Eenkema van Dijk skippered A division with Eleanor Grams, and Conor Lodge skippered B division with Estelle Beguin. 4 sets were completed on Saturday, with racing cancelled on Sunday due to the cold.
Both divisions sailed well, staying in the top half consistently despite a few deep races. Eenkema van Dijk and Grams led the way for the Huskies, finishing 4th in their division, while Lodge and Beguin were 8th in B division. Their scores put them on the leading edge of a 12 point spread between 3rd and 7th place, finishing 3rd of 18 teams overall.
At MIT, Northeastern competed in in the first team race of the season at the Ike Geiger Team Race Trophy. The team consisted of skippers Tori McGruer, Zach Shapiro, Fabrizio Petrucci and John Wehner, with crews Claire Lockard, Liz Sczerzenie and Emily Browning. Petrucci and Wehner made their college sailing debuts, and the team race was the first time much of the team hit the water all spring. Northeastern got beat up by tougher competition, finishing last in the fleet of 7, but will look to improve as practices begin this week.
