Week 11

April 12-13, 2014

Northeastern spent the weekend on home waters with two regattas on the Charles River. At MIT, Northeastern hosted the Oberg Trophy. 13 teams competed in 3 divisions with Coach Farrar and a host of Northeastern sailors running the races. Warm weather on both days was a welcome change after a cold beginning to the season. 13 races were sailed in a combination of FJ's and Firefly's for each division.

In A division, Maarten Eenkema van Dijk and Margo Blagden continued a strong season with consistent sailing and multiple top-3 finishes that put them at 3rd in A division. Conor Lodge and Estelle Beguin matched that performance with a 3rd place finish in B division. With the seniors sailing in A and B divisions, freshmen Peter Christensen and Eleanor Grams stepped up to sail C division for the first time this year. Although it was the toughest competition the pair had faced this season, they had some strong finishes and ended the regatta on a high note with a bullet. Christensen and Grams were 10th in their division, bringing the Huskies to a 7th place finish of 13 teams.

Farther up the river, the women's team sailed in the President's Trophy at BU. The event served as a warm up for next weekend's Women's NEISA Champs. Tori McGruer skippered A division with Liz Sczerzenie, and Camille Matile skippered B division with Estella Lofftus. Both divisions stumbled a bit from their previous weekends, but the regatta was a valuable experience for the NEISA Champs. A division finished 9th and B division 10th, which put Northeastern in 9th of 11 teams overall.
