Week 4

October 3-4, 2015

A breezy weekend in Boston and at the Danmark Trophy led to a weekend where heavy crews were in use for two of the team's three regattas.

A group of Husky sailors took on powerful winds and even stronger competition at the Danmark hosted by the Coast Guard Academy. Sailing at the toughest regatta of the weekend in the entire country, Scott Goodrich, James Maguire, Caitlin Cloonan, Jackson Hamilton, and John Hughes gained valuable experience for themselves and for the team on the venue as well as on general boatspeed and rigging tips for the z420s.

Tori McGruer, Laura Tschiegg, Johnny Wehner, Katie Alfond, Sarah de Silva and Nathalie Garcia sailed conditions that were less breezythan the storm strength winds pervasive throughout the rest of New England. Their event, the Hewitt Trophy hosted by Dartmouth, proved to be shiftier and more similar to the tricky Charles River conditions that the team practices in regularly, leading to some strong finishes.

Kurran Singh, Claire Lockard, Chris Colbeth, Evan Gregory, Coleen Ross, and Ian Campbell sailed in MIT's Techs and Fireflies at the Smith Trophy. Consistently strong results were punctuated by capsizes in the 25-35 knot conditions, as all teams struggled to keep the boats upright given the unusual riggings and gusty winds.
