Week 10

November 8-9, 2014

Northeastern sent a competitive team to the Rhode Island States Regatta (Sister Esther Annual) at Salve Regina. On Saturday, sunny skies and a west/northwesterly breeze provided for an exciting eight races in each division. In division-A were sailors Jackson Hamilton and Jackie Berlin and in division-B were Scott Goodrich and Laura Tschiegg. Sunday saw another eight races in 8-12 kts. Hamilton and Berlin returned for an 11th place in A-fleet. Tori McGruer and Liz Sczerzenie switched into B-fleet and rounded out the even with 4th place for 7th overall.

In Boston the Huskies hosted the Professor No Ringer at MIT. Five races we sailed in 10 kts that deteriorated to some lighter, patchy wind. Evan Gregory and John Hughes sailed A-fleet with Claire Lockard and Zach Shapiro in B-fleet, both finishing 3rd. Some good teams were represented and the University of New England made their first appearance in NIESA.

Also on the Charles was the Mike Horn Team Racing Trophy hosted by Harvard. Wind ranged from nothing to 12 kts which made for some tricky racing. The Huskies included Luke Orchardo, Sasha Zhmakina, Steve Fletcher, Lindsay Martinez, Camille Matile, and Eleanor Grams. After three round robins the team finished in 6th place.

Northeastern also hosted a more lighthearted side of racing on Sunday at the Crews Regatta. Again the Charles delivered light and shifty breeze, allowing for six races in each division. The Huskies had a blast with Laura Tschiegg and John Hughes at the helm and Elise Gehling and Donal Ryan stepping in as crew. The team placed 6th overall.
