November 10-11, 2012

And so the 2012 Fall season begins!

Northeastern sent a large contingency of its team up to Maine Maritime for the Pen Bay Open and the Harmon Cup. In dinghies, we had Maarten Eenkema van Dijk and Janelle Veary sailing 'A' with Conor Lodge and Estelle Beguin in B division. Maine was wild and windy on Saturday, and the lightweight crews had to work hard to keep the boat flat. In a weekend where the team was definitely still shaking out the kinks, the Huskies finished 11th out of 18 teams overall.

The sloop team sailed on the bay side of the water in Colgate 26's. Scott Goodrich skippered with Colin Henderson, Luke Orchardo, and Sydney Rey. Despite a couple of deep races, the team sailed consistently in the rowdy winds with 3rd and 4th place finishes, which was good  for 4th place, until the team learned the lesson of signing RP forms the hard way, adding 20 points to their score and unfortunately knocking them down to last and out of a qualifying position for the New England Sloop Championships.

The women's team kicked off their season at MIT with the Tony Deutsch TrophyTasha Greenwood and Taylor Williams sailed A division, with Heidi Hood and Estella Lofftus in B division. It was a weekend of ups and downs, but the Huskies finished 13th of 15 overall.

Also on the Charles was the FJ Invite out of BU. Becker Awqatty and Linnea Goldstein sailed A division with Zach Shapiro and Lukas Scott in B. NU finished 6th of 9 overall.
