Week 2: March 9-10

We started off our season in full force with 3 regattas all in the Boston area!

Wood Team Race @ Harvard

After bailing snow out of our boats, the Huskies competed in the Wood Trophy. On Saturday a light northerly wind made for shifty conditions, eventually shifting to the southeast in the afternoon. Sailors Jackson Hamilton ('19), Santiago Hirschmann ('23), Ted Bjerregaard ('23), Coleen Ross ('20), Becker Ewing ('21), and Julianne Mozzer ('21) completed a full round robin with strong wins against MIT and Princeton. Sunday was very cold and snowy, and only a final four was completed.

Team Race Invite @ MIT

Also sailing on the Charles river at a regatta hosted by Tufts were sailors Carolyn Corbet ('21), Caleb Niles ('22), Ben Palmer ('22), Kelley Phippen ('22), Liz Silva ('21), and Jack Denker ('22). On Saturday, a full round robin was completed, with the sailors improving with each race before finally finishing the round robin with a win against URI. A second round robin was started but not completed, and racing was cancelled on Sunday due to snowy conditions.

Ice Breaker @ Tufts

Fitting for the name of the regatta, skippers Morgan TerMaat ('23) and Carter Brock ('22), and crews Ellie Reagan ('19) and Donal Ryan ('19) started off their season in close proximity to ice, resulting in a smaller than typical racecourse. The wind was shifty, and the ice made it difficult for sailors to see the wind on the racecourse. With a solid day of racing despite the challenging conditions, with 8 races for A division and 6 races for B division, the Huskies finished 9/12.
