Week 3: September 22-23
Week 3 saw the new Showcase system kick off with the Co-ed and Women's qualifying events. Both teams have secured a spot in the semifinals! In addition, four team members attended a team racing clinic with renowned racer Dave Perry to prepare for Match Race New Englands.

Mrs. Hurst @ Dartmouth
This weekend the women's team travelled to Dartmouth for the Mrs. Hurst Bowl. The event was the qualifying event for the Women's Showcase, and although the Huskies had already qualified via their ranking from last year, the team got great practice sailing against some of the teams they will be competing against next weekend during the Women's Showcase at Navy. A fall chill was in the air the whole weekend, and the cold condition made for an especially tough regatta for sailors Carolyn Corbet ('21), Kelley Phippen ('22), Victoria Pajak ('22), Morgan TerMaat ('23), and Coleen Ross ('20). On Saturday, there was a good amount of breeze ranging from about 16-20 knots all day, which allowed for 10 races in each division. Unfortunately the wind was not so favorable on Sunday, so after a lot of waiting around for breeze to fill, each division only got off 1 race at the very end of the day. Overall, the Huskies scored a 13th place finish out of 16.

Norm Reid @ Boston College
At the Norman Reid regatta at BC, the co-ed team needed to put in a good showing to qualify for the Co-ed Showcase. Chris Colbeth ('20) and Sandra Nygren ('20) sailed in A fleet, while Santiago Hirschmann ('23) and Romain Astié ('21) sailed in B fleet as the Huskies fought for one of the last 3 qualifying spots. Saturday brought high winds and waves, and good finishes in both divisions, including two first place finishes from Hirschmann and Astié, left the team sitting pretty in 7th overall. On Sunday, the Huskies managed to wrap up qualifying early with some mid-fleet finishes in light and very shifty conditions, and come home with an overall 10th place and a ticket to the semifinals at either MIT or Harvard.

North U Match Race Clinic @ Sail Newport
In addition to the Showcase qualifiers, the Huskies also sent a team to Dave Perry’s College Match Racing Clinic at Sail Newport in preparation for the NEISA Match Race Championship. The team of Kyle Riggs ('21), Caleb Niles ('22), Erin Coyne ('20) and Will Crane ('21), learned a wealth of information on land and on the water. Throughout the clinic they match raced top teams in J/22s and participated in drills run by Dave Perry himself. After this experience the Huskies are prepared to tackle Match Race New England’s and more!
